Tour Itinerary
Speyside is world famous for its whisky and it's only a short drive from Inverness so we have created the following Ultimate Speyside Whisky tour as we believe it offers a good variety from family owned to some of the biggest whisky brands in the world.
Strathisla Distillery is one of the oldest working distilleries in Scotland with Chivas Regal blends and the classic Speyside malt at their heart. As a whisky enthusiast, or a newcomer, your Strathisla tour will be a sensory experience, both memorable and informative – created in a beautiful riverside distillery now in its 231st year visitors will spend an hour discovering the ancient craft of distilling spirits and the rare skills needed for blending them. See and hear how prestigious whiskies are created from simple, natural ingredients. Inhale the distinctive aromas released during production and share the many subtleties of each one as you ‘nose’ and then taste them to complete your tour. We love this tour and think you will too.
Glenfiddich Distillery is the perfect place to marry whisky and lunch. The Glenfiddich Malt Barn restaurant offers a wide selection of fare from Hot Smoked Salmon salads and Spiced Pulled Pork Sandwiches to our favourite traditional Haggis, Neeps and Tatties with a Glenfiddich whisky cream sauce.
Aberlour Distillery visitor centre is one of the smallest in Scotland but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for with its whisky. They allow one free taste per person and they often have distillery only releases open and ready to be enjoyed. With an abundance of gold medals (including trophies for the best single malt of all), the Aberlour distillery is consistently recognised in the most prestigious international whisky competitions for producing single malts of exceptional quality and depth. But don’t just take their word for it – we would much prefer that you judge them for yourself.
Glenfarclas Distillery is one of the few family owned distilleries and was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to open a dedicated visitor centre in 1973. In our opinion every Speyside tour should include a wee visit to Glenfarclas for a taste in the splendour of the "Ship’s Room" and a browse in the distillery shop with its large selection of Glenfarclas Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
Cardhu Distillery nestles in a picturesque setting in the heart of Speyside. The only distillery in Scotland started by a women really does stand out from all the other distilleries in Speyside and there are a number of whiskies available to taste for a small fee. The Cardhu range of whiskies are an excellent representation of a Speyside whisky and are enjoyed by people all over the world. They also have some very friendly Highland Cows who are partial to a digestive biscuit and are more than happy to pose for pictures.
In the heart of the beautiful Macallan Estate, personal service and a warm greeting awaits every guest at the Macallan Distillery. There's the option to take a tour here with one of the very knowledgable guides who will be happy to pour some drams and talk you through one of the best known whiskies in the world. The new £100m distillery and visitor centre is well on its way to being finished and should open early summer 2018.
An alternative to Strathisla is The Balvenie Whisky Tour which is one of the best tours in Scotland and as such it is very popular but if you would like to include the Balvenie let us know what date you are coming and we will endeavour to book you a tour if possible. Please note the Balvenie Distillery only offer 2 tours per day and no option to just taste.
Everyone has their favourite Speyside distillery so let us know if we've missed out yours and if possible we will fit it into your Ultimate Speyside whisky tour although it might mean dropping one of the other distilleries.
Tour length: 8hrs
